What are keyboard shortcuts and why use them?
Keyboard shortcuts are the key 🙂 to incressed productivity. They replace the need to use your trackpad or mouse, making it faster to do your work.
So rather than lifting your hand away from the keyboard to access toolbars or menu commands with your pointing device. Instead a combination of 2-3 keystrokes to access the same commands. E.g Ctrl + Z ( undo shortcut )
It also reduces repetitive strain injury ( RSI ) if you have spent any amount of time in front of a computer, you know that your forearms and wrists can get sore, by doing the same action over and over again. To reduce injury use keyboard shortcuts and a good work desk set for your computer.
About me
Hi I’m Mike, I have been in the IT industry for over 20 years as a 2nd / 3rd level technical support engineer and team leader.
I started using computers when the Apple II was popular. I moved on to IBM compatible PC’s when 286 and DOS 4.0 was the latest.
Back then I used a 300 baud modem, connecting to bulletin board systems ( BBS) as a way of reaching the outside world. It was painfully slow, but exciting knowing I could connect with other people and play games.
I’ve always preferred to use the command line, which is why I like keyboard shortcuts so much.
Feel free to contact me if you have requests for shortcuts or to let me know about any mistakes on the website.
